The Luminescence Live imprint was created to document the remarkable variety and range of music being created within the burgeoning Chicago free-jazz scene. All of the recordings in this catalog include music performed in Chicago by musicians currently living or otherwise connected to the community.

The idea of presenting music as it occurs rather than as a polished, finished product is not a new concept. The purpose of the Luminescence Live imprint is to give the audience a portal into the way new musical ideas are developed. The aim is to document the way this music is created.

One venue of many, the Luminescence Records Loft Space, has hosted events several times a year since the late 90’s. Many of the releases in this catalog were recorded during these performances.
