The Luminescence Live imprint was created to document the remarkable variety and range of music being created within the burgeoning Chicago free-jazz scene by both local and international musicians. All of the recordings in this catalog include music performed by musicians currently living or otherwise connected to the Chicago music community.

The idea of presenting music as it occurs rather than as a polished, finished product is not a new concept. The purpose of the Luminescence Live imprint is to give the label's audience a portal into the way new musical ideas are developed. The aim is to document the way this music is created.

One venue of many here in Chicago, the Luminescence Records Loft Space, has hosted events many times since the mid 90’s. Several of the releases in this catalog were recorded during these performances.
